Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin believes the blockchain trilemma is no longer just a theory.

According to Vitalik, Ethereum has now reached a point where scalability, security, and decentralization can exist together, thanks to two major breakthroughs: PeerDAS and ZK-EVMs.

This is not a future promise. One part is already live on the Ethereum mainnet, and the other has reached production-level performance.


Understanding the Blockchain Trilemma

For years, blockchains have struggled with the same problem.

If a network is decentralized and secure, it usually sacrifices speed.
If it is fast and scalable, it often becomes centralized.

Bitcoin, for example, is highly decentralized and secure, but slow.

The ideal future is one where no single entity ever constructs a full block.

This reduces censorship risks, improves geographic fairness, and prevents centralized control over transaction inclusion.

It’s not urgent today, but it is a capability Ethereum wants to achieve long-term.
